Letter to a Job seeker

Dear Jobseeker,

As to let you know, I am not unemployed. A more appropriate word for me is a Masters's student. You must be wondering then why are you writing this? well, the truth is I am frustrated. A LOT. I am going to ramble a lot so read it at your own risk. India is going through a recession right now. Many people are losing their jobs and unable to retain their existing jobs too. When I thought about writing this, I wanted to go all smart one and come up with all the graphs and figures of how badly we are doing. But now, the only thing I want to share is how one can feel.

When a person applies for a job and does not even have the email back that is the worst. But you know what worst than this? To not be able to realize where they went wrong? how far a person can go to improve themselves? There is always going to be some full stop at improvement point right? So many social media posts talking about that nobody is perfect. Not true. Somewhere we all are looking for perfection and not want to give a chance to anyone less than perfect.

There are so many factors that played out when it comes to job hunting. I want to tell everyone who is looking for the job that I understand your position but can not understand how you must be feeling inside. I just can tell you that a lot of unobservable factors work when it comes to looking for a job. Some people might have a better resume than you, positions might be internally filled or some nasty politics is at work.

Please do not blame yourself for the worst every time you get a rejection. Not having money and worrying about survival is not something I have realized before today. I can not offer you something credible, but what I can is please do not lose hope. Please hang on for one more day. Please apply and take support from your family, friends, and all the network. You might never know when help will arrive at your door.

Sometimes not having a particular job offer can be a wonderful stroke of luck too. In our desperate attempt, we might apply where we are not really going to fit in. So, keep the faith. Systems are not so straightforward anymore so there are no straightforward solutions too. You will need to come up with something sooner / later. You can take your time in recovering from all the rejection but dear you need to bounce back up at some point. Take all the help you can get.

Start writing, showcasing, and talking about your skills. Do not shy away. Do not let the world tell you otherwise. Learn to rest not to quit. You can tell me that Bhavya you have not felt this. Yes, I have not and I am not claiming anything. But, all I have learned from my long 24 years is, there are always better days coming. You can never know what you can be tomorrow. All of our lives are ups and downs graph. For me, sadness has been always a patient and persistent companion. It gives you time to reflect, time to slow down... To quote Winston Churchill. If you are going through hell, Keep going. Why would you stop in hell?

I hope whoever is reading this will find this useful, frustrating and may give you something to think about. Wishing you all the best. I will be looking forward to all your future achievements.

Sincerely,

Bhavya.
